The fourth grade students took a field trip this afternoon to the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. They learned about cultural arts of Mexican Americans and other Latino cultures. They viewed photography, sculptures, and paintings displayed in two of the rotating galleries. Then, they had the opportunity to create some art of their own. They began by discussing what they had learned about Costa Rican culture in Spanish class with Señora Kertz, then made masks inspired by the indigenous Boruca people.
