Impressionist Nativities

4th Grade_archive

The fourth grade students made these Impressionist Nativities. We began by looking at Van Gogh’s Starry Night. We talked about his painting style, why he and his friends are called “impressionists,” and how we could translate that to a nativity scene. We also discussed religious art, and the significance of halos and Mary wearing blue.  The students then put their new knowledge to the test using crayons and colored pencils.
