The fourth grade students created these crosses for their silent auction project. Each student began with a small square of paper to practice their design on. Once they perfected it, they moved on to their metal piece. We worked with squares of 38ga foil (about the thickness of a soda can). They placed their square on a piece of felt, then traced their design using a ballpoint pen. The felt allows the metal to stretch as the pen draws, creating a relief design on the opposite side. The final step was to rub the metal with black acrylic paint to give it an antique look.
