The fourth grade students created these sarcophagi. We talked about how ancient Egyptians used them as a way to protect, beautify, and identify their mummies. However, not any old mummy was lucky enough to be buried this way. These elaborate coffins were reserved for royalty and other important figures. The head-dresses were used like crowns and the faux-beards were a symbol of importance.
