Students often ask me where I get ideas for projects. My answer: everywhere. I find ideas on Pinterest, in books, from blogs, at conferences, and even from my memory as an elementary art student. One of my favorite forms of inspiration, however, is going to museums and galleries.  I love the challenge of turning large scale works into something manageable in the classroom.

Over spring break, I visited the Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. I was a frequent visitor while living there, and never miss an opportunity to go back. Their current exhibition WONDER was inspired by the building itself. It features 9 different pieces that use common materials like string, index cards, and marbles. I couldn’t wait to get back in the classroom and start borrowing ideas.
