The third grade students spent a class exercising their creativity with these blown ink monsters. We began class watching videos of artist Stefan G. Bucher on his website The Daily Monster. Bucher starts with blown shapes of black ink and turns them into monsters based on the shapes he sees. To recreate this effect, the students used watered down black tempera paint. They dotted a small amount of paint onto a square of paper, then blew it in different directions with a straw. Once the paint dried a bit, they went back in with permanent markers and colored pencils to create their monsters.
