Yarn Painting

The third grade students created these symmetrical yarn paintings. They began by dipping a piece of yarn into black paint. Then, they laid the yarn onto a piece of paper making sure to leave some hanging over the edge. They sandwiched another piece of paper on top and weighed the whole thing down with a book. Taking hold of the end of the yarn, they applied pressure on top of the book with one hand and pulled the yarn out with another. The result was an symmetrical abstract design.
