Gee’s Bend Quilt

The first grade students learned about the quilting work that has been taking place in Gee’s Bend, AL for the past century. The women there started quilting out of necessity, but are now recognized as American folk artists. For many years, the simple patterns were created from recycled fabrics by groups of ladies for friends and family.  Now, these quilts are featured in galleries and museums around the country.  We recreated the look of their work with recycled paper.
