Southwestern Blankets

4th Grade_archive

The fourth grade students began this project by drawing patterns onto white paper in the style of Southwestern Native American blankets. We talked about how in the same way we recognize uniform plaids to represent schools in the area; the Native Americans used different colors and patterns to represent different tribes. The second step of this project was to draw animal skulls. This portion of the project was inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. We looked at her work, and talked about her inspiration based on the animals that lived around her. The students had the option of creating a realistic skull or more of a geometric representation. The last step was to add the fringe to the edges.
