Pinwheels

This post is very tardy on my part. The 5th graders worked on these pinwheels in the Fall.  I was finally able to snap a few good pictures of them last week. We began by doing a lesson in op art (optical art). They divided their papers into 4 sections and did a different type in each section. Then, they flipped their pages over and painted the backs with abstract designs.  For this portion of the project we played “Pass the Paint.” Each student started with a single paint color, and passed them around the room until they each had every color on their page. Finally, the papers were slit from each corner and folded into a pinwheel with a metal brad.
